The Beauty and Durability of Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring
What is Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring?
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring is a versatile and cost-effective option that mimics the appearance of natural hardwood floors. Its high-quality construction and innovative design make it a popular choice among homeowners. Below are two flooring options from Landmark Interiors that I will be testing out in my home.

Exploring the Benefits of LVP Flooring
- Realistic Appearance: LVP flooring is available in a wide range of colors, textures, and patterns, providing endless design possibilities for any interior style.
- Durability and Water Resistance: LVP flooring is highly resistant to moisture, scratches, and stains, making it ideal for high-traffic areas and rooms prone to spills.
- Easy Maintenance: LVP flooring requires minimal upkeep, as it can be easily cleaned with regular sweeping and occasional mopping.
- Comfort and Sound Absorption: LVP flooring offers a softer underfoot feel and reduces noise transmission, enhancing the overall comfort of your home.
Choosing the Perfect Color for Your LVP Flooring
- Consider Your Style: Whether you prefer a rustic, contemporary, or traditional aesthetic, LVP flooring comes in various shades and finishes to match your desired look.
- Lighting and Room Size: Lighter-colored LVP flooring can make a small room appear more spacious. With light-colored flooring, the room can feel more bright and airy, while darker hues create an intimate ambiance and add warmth and coziness. You should also take into account the amount of natural lighting in the home. If the space is well-lit, you can opt for darker flooring colors without making the room feel too dark. However, if the home lacks natural light, lighter flooring colors can help brighten it up.
- Existing Decor and Furniture: consider the overall style and color scheme of your home and look at the existing furniture, walls, and decor to determine the dominant colors and choose a flooring color that complements them.
- Consider the wood grain: large wood grains create a more country look, while small wood grain make the room look more traditional. Another thing to consider is a floor with more realistic wood visuals hides dirt better than a fairly plain board, which is important to consider especially if you have pets or have a lot of foot traffic. It’s important to think about the level of maintenance you are willing to commit to. Lighter flooring colors may show dirt and stains more easily, requiring more frequent cleaning, while darker colors can hide dirt and stains better.
The Timeless Elegance of Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Understanding Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered hardwood flooring is crafted from a top layer of real hardwood veneer bonded to multiple layers of high-quality board. This construction method offers both beauty and stability. Here are another two flooring options from Landmark Interiors:
Cedar Ridge
Hazelnut
Advantages of Engineered Hardwood Flooring
- Authentic Appearance: Engineered hardwood captures the natural beauty and warmth of real wood, providing a timeless appeal to any room.
- Enhanced Durability: Its layered construction makes engineered hardwood less susceptible to moisture-related issues, such as warping and expanding, compared to solid hardwood.
- Flexibility in Installation: Engineered hardwood can be installed in areas with fluctuating humidity levels, including basements and concrete subfloors, expanding your flooring options.
- Refinishing Potential: Depending on the thickness of the top hardwood layer, engineered hardwood can be sanded and refinished multiple times, allowing you to refresh its appearance over the years
Choosing the Perfect Color for Your Engineered Hardwood Flooring
- Wood Species and Stains: Engineered hardwood flooring is available in a variety of wood species, each offering unique grain patterns and colors. Consider stains and finishes that complement your desired aesthetic.
- Natural Light and Room Function: Take note of how much natural light enters the room and consider the purpose of the space. Lighter woods can make a room feel more open and airy, while darker tones create a cozy atmosphere.
- Style and Personal Preference: From classic oak to exotic walnut, select a wood species and color that aligns with your personal style and complements your furniture and décor.
Making the Right Choice for Your Home
Factors to Consider when Choosing Between Luxury Vinyl Plank and Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Both luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood flooring have their unique advantages. To make an informed decision, consider the following factors:
- Budget: Luxury vinyl plank flooring is generally more affordable than engineered hardwood, making it a cost-effective option for those on a tight budget.
- Lifestyle: If you have pets, young children, or a busy household, luxury vinyl plank flooring’s durability and resistance to scratches and stains make it an excellent choice.
- Maintenance: Engineered hardwood flooring requires periodic refinishing to maintain its original appearance, while luxury vinyl plank flooring is low-maintenance and easy to clean.
- Desired look: While luxury vinyl plank provides endless visual possibilities to match any décor, engineered hardwood can provide a natural timeless look.

Landmark Interiors Visualizer Tool
Now that you have all of the important information, differentiating LVP vs. Engineered Hardwood Flooring, let’s play with one of my favorite tools: the Floor Visualizer on the Landmark Interiors website. I’ve shown you flooring samples of some of my favorite collections above, but using a tool like the floor visualizer will help with finalizing your decision when it comes to choosing the perfect flooring.
What I love about the floor visualizer is that you have the option to upload your own photo of your home or you can use an interior room scene from the Landmark Interior library. Another feature I love about the visualizer is you can save your projects, which makes it very convenient when you want to compare your options. Lastly, the floor visualizer allows you to filter a few different ways, including color, look , construction or collection to help you find the right flooring for your space.

My style can be described as vintage modern, which combines elements of both the past and the present. I am drawn to the charm and character of vintage pieces, but I also appreciate the clean lines and simplicity of modern design. When it comes to flooring, I have a strong preference for light-colored options with minimal wood grain. Light flooring adds a sense of brightness and openness to a space, creating a welcoming and airy atmosphere. It also serves as versatile backdrop for various decor styles, allowing me to easily switch up my home’s aesthetic whenever I want.
In comparison, dark flooring can create a more dramatic and sophisticated look. It adds depth and richness to a room, making it feel cozy and intimate. However, it can also make a space appear smaller and absorb more light, which may not be ideal for those who prefer a brighter ambiance. When paired with vintage decor, dark flooring can create a nostalgic and elegant atmosphere, reminiscent of old-world charm.
The next two photos are luxury vinyl flooring from two different collections: Hilltop Essential II and Ascension Outland. Both of these colors have lighter tones that brighten up my space a bit. The Hilltop Essential II flooring has LOTS of variation compared to the Ascension Outland flooring.

Choosing the perfect type and color of flooring can be hard, but what helped me make my decision was asking myself: what do I want people to see when they walk in my house? What do I want to see when I walk in my house? I know I wanted wide planks because they add a sense of spaciousness, making each room appear larger and more open- so we decided to go with 7″ plank flooring. I also knew that I wanted a flooring color that had minimal variance in order to ensure cohesiveness and a uniform look throughout my home. These features in flooring were important to me as I wanted a flooring option that would enhance the overall design and ambiance of my living space.
We decided to go with LVP flooring because of its durability and resilience. Our flooring has withstood the daily wear and tear caused by our two very active toddlers! Its scratch and stain resistance has been a lifesaver, as spills and accidents are inevitable with little ones running around. Also, the fact that LVP flooring is water resistant gives me peace of mind, especially in areas prone to moisture like our kitchen.
The ease of maintenance is another reason we went with LVP. Its low-maintenance nature allows me to quickly clean up messes or spills, saving me valuable time and energy. Overall, LVP flooring has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of our home but also provided a practical and durable solution that caters to the needs of our family.
If I was given the opportunity to change my floors, I wouldn’t take it!
