I am so excited to announce that we are finally renovating our kitchen! As you may know, I have NOT been happy with my cabinet color choice. If you are new here, our kitchen was one of the first projects we completed as homeowners – way before The Delighted Home was thought of. Per usual, I rushed into getting a paint color that looked great on the paint swatch, but looked completely different when all of our cabinets were painted. Check out the picture below of what our kitchen looked like when we purchased the home and the picture of when we first did our mini kitchen refresh. It is a drastic change, but I still wasn’t 100% happy with the result.
Let’s get this started…
Fast forward to present day and I have finally convinced my husband to re-paint our kitchen cabinets, demo the existing backsplash and install new tile provided by Jeffrey Court. Click here for our tile of choice. It took about 3 weeks for me to decide on a cabinet color. I painted a swatch on each cabinet to see how the paint would look in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I also tested how the paint colors would look with the preset I use for my Instagram.
Choosing the perfect cabinet color is super important to me because I do not want to make the wrong choice again. I highly doubt our cabinets will be able to take 3rd refacing project, so I had no choice but to take my sweet ol’ time choosing a paint color that not only works with the kitchen, but also fits the aesthetic of our entire home.
Week 1
For the first week of the Jeffrey Court Renovation challenge, we focused on demo of existing backsplash, patch & repair the drywall as needed. I took on the task of demoing the tile and my husband scraped the old thin set and repaired all holes as needed.
Friends, let me just say this is our FIRST time tackling a project of this magnitude (a.k.a tiling) and we have some other plans for the kitchen such as, removing our upper cabinets, adding shelving above the sink, and possibly building a vent hood cover. I still haven’t fully convinced my husband yet, but I am confident we will be able to do it.
My husband never replaced drywall before and look at him dominating this task that some may consider simple, but we celebrated after it was repaired!
Here is the mood board for this kitchen renovation. I am so excited to cook in a kitchen that I love. Our cabinet color will be Benjamin Moore – Pashmina. This is the perfect taupe with some hints of browns and I know it will fit the overall aesthetic of our home.
The next step in our kitchen renovation is redoing our countertops using the Giani Marble Countertop Kit. Stay tuned for that next week 🙂
Once again, I am so excited to be one of the featured designers in the Jeffrey Court Fall 2021 Tile Challenge and grateful for the other sponsors: Frogtape and Wagner!
