Have you made your own candle? In this post, I am going to share my simple step-by-step guide to making your own scented candle with the help of James Wax Co. The best thing about candle making is that you can pretty much use any empty container you have laying around, heat resistant of course!
During my weekly thrifting trips, I picked up an old candle holder. It had some leftover wax at the bottom but the holder itself was super cute and I knew I would find a good use for it. Well, thank you to James Wax Co. for gifting me a candle making kit š
Instructions
First Step: is to clean out the container you have. Whether it is an old candleholder or a brand new container, you should make sure the container is clear of any debris. In my case, I had to scrap out the old wax and clean it thoroughly before putting the new wax inside. Did I mention I found this little cutie for $2.99? Well, yes! You see the price tag š – thank you, Goodwill!
Second Step: is to double boil the wax. There is a microwave option as well, but my microwave is small and this large jar didn’t fit inside. The wax had to boil for about 15-20 minutes until fully melted. As It boiled, I stirred it from time to time.
The directions say to stir continuously, but I was multi-tasking, so stirring the wax every 5 minutes worked for me.
After the wax is melted throughout, the recommendation is to let the melted wax sit for about 5 minutes. I removed the wax from the heat and allowed the wax to sit outside of the boiling water for 5 minutes.
Fourth step: Add the wooden wick holders to ensure the wicks remain upright.
Fifth Step: After letting the wax sit for 5 minutes, you can add the chosen fragrance to the wax & gently stir.
Sixth Step: While wearing oven mitts, pour the wax into your desired containers.
