We finished my daughter bedroom makeover this week and I am beyond happy with how everything turned out. It is crazy how some paint and wallpaper can do to a room. We started off with a gender neutral nursery, as we did not find the gender until birth.
The Before
In my previous post about gender neutral nurseries, you will see I got my inspiration from another Home Decor blogger with this accent wall. The sponge wall was a trending DIY back in 2019-2020, so this was the best alternative to wallpaper. Many of us know how expensive wallpaper can be, so I was happy to that I came across this sponge wall on Instagram.
For the bedroom makeover, I wanted to give my daughter a Pretty in Pink paradise. I envisioned a subtle pink on the walls with pink sheer curtains and a whimsical wallpaper. Our budget for this makeover was $250. In order to stay within budget, we decided to keep everything in terms of crib, seating and wall decor. We were lucky enough to have the wallpaper gifted from Urban Walls, so that kept us within budget.

5 simple ways to upgrade a space
- Paint Paint Paint: I cannot express this enough! Paint is a game changer and can completely transform any room. We decided to use Sedona Pink by BEHR paint in this room. It is the perfect shade of pink that isn’t too overpowering.
- Lighting: changing out your light fixtures is a great way to update a space. You can look on Amazon for extremely affordable lighting!
- Window Treatments: it is time to remove those standard white blinds! I DO NOT have any blinds in my home. I really love the amount of lighting that comes through my windows with no blinds. Instead of the white blinds, consider curtains and shades.
- Area Rugs: Adding an area rug to your space may be what you are missing. Unfortunately, rugs can be pricey, but online retailers like Boutique Rugs, Rugs USA, and Amazon are great places to start when searching for an affordable area rug.
- Wall Decor/Art: This one is tricky because less is more in this situation. If you look at the pictures in my home, you will not see lots of wall decor. Take your time to pick out wall decor/art that is timeless and also creates a big impact!
There are so many ways to upgrade your space on a budget and the list above is just a simple starter list. If you are getting ready to make over a space, I would consider painting and adding curtains and/or shades and watch your space transform before your eyes.
